ABOUT US
Canada and Britain share a long history
with common values and common standards.
We pursue the same objectives, at home
and abroad. We understand each other instinctively.
We find it easy and rewarding to work
together.
Both countries are friends without being
rivals, at ease with one another. We are
each drawing closer to our continental
neighbours. But modern communications,
in which both our countries excel, have
shrunk the distance between Europe and
North America. Britain and Canada are
still united by the Atlantic Ocean - and
by much more besides, as we look forward
to the next five hundred years.
The British Government is represented in
Canada at the HighCommission in Ottawa,
the Consulates-General in Toronto, Montreal,
and Vancouver, and a Trade Office in Calgary.
Our staff can help you find all the information
you need to know about the UK –
from domestic policies, international
affairs, government and economy to practical
information about traveling to Britain,
including applying for British visas and
passports.
General
For general information on the UK, the
British High Commission provides Canadians

Culture &
Education

High Commission in Ottawa, is the United
Kingdom's principal international agency
for cultural relations, educational promotion,
developmental services and English language
teaching.

tourist boards in England, Northern Ireland,
Scotland and Wales to promote an attractive
image of Britain. It provides impartial
tourism information and gathers essential
market intelligence for the UK tourism
industry. VisitBritain's overseas offices
work closely with British diplomatic and
cultural staff, the local travel trade
and media to stimulate interest in Britain.
